¿En qué equipos has jugado?

He jugado DotA por 4 o 5 años.

* ¿En qué plataformas juegas DotA 1?

* ¿Cómo empezaste a jugar competitivamente?

* ¿Admiras a algún jugador o equipo? ¿Qué es lo que admiras de él/ellos?

Rhasta: Bueno si necesitas disable, gank y pushear torres.

* ¿Tienes algunas palabras finales?

* Can you present yourself for those people who doesn’t know you? Who’s Ryze? What role does he play in DotA? What does he do in his real life?

Hello everyone. Thanks to ZonaDotA for taking the time to interview me. I’m Ryze and I’m playing with the monkey boys link, CalculuS, AngeL, miGGel and eatenfish as team monkeybusiness! I used to be a hardcore farm player, but I’ve changed my role into full support and I’m very motivated to explore this new role. In my real life I study computer science and work as a programmer in a bank.

* Tell us your story with DotA, please. How many years do you have playing DotA and how many years playing in the competitive scene? In which teams have you played?

I’ve played dota for 4 or 5 years. I started out on battle.net and was part of the largest danish community called MoDi. I played in some danish/swedish/norwegian teams in dota-league Pick-league for some casual clan wars, while playing Singe Instant Games. Last year I started playing in inhouse leagues such as Dota-Pride and I met Maelk in a couple of games. He introduced me to the competitive scene. I played stand-in for MYM in some clan wars and officials and eventually went to DSrack-Lan in Denmark with a danish mix and we got first place (Ryze, Misery, Mania, Pusher and Maelk). It was my first LAN and it felt great. I wanted to go inactive, but got contacted by syndereN to make a team with him, miggel and angel. We went on to compete with the best teams in europe. We didn’t really have a fifth man in our roster, but tried out different danish players. eatenfish joined the team, but had alot of responsibilties with his work. miGGel, AngeL, synderen, Me and eatenfish participated in The International and it was a great experience. After this tournament, syndereN started focusing on shoutcasting games and we added link and Calculus to our lineup and created the new team name: monkeybusiness!

* How are the things with your team name? You first played as shift, then nevo and now monkey. Do you like changing your name quite often?

I would actually rather stay with the same tag and not change it. We started out with shift and then got sponsored by nevo. Sadly nevo was a scam organization and once we added 2 new players to our team, we decided to make a fun name :o)

* Do you think the team improved with Link and Calculus?

I parted ways with link when I wanted to go inactive last year, so I’m really happy to unite with him once again. CalculuS is very agressive and fits our team much better than I had first expected. We are much stronger and motivated than before. Everyone on the team shares the same dream of becoming the strongest team in the world. Next saturday, the 11th of november, we start practicing for dreamhack. You can watch our practice games and listen to our ventrilo/ingame chat while we play to get a feeling of how we bond together – www.own3d.tv/linkdota.

* Are you pleased with your 4th place at ESWC? Do you think you can get more in upcoming tournaments?

I’m not pleased with our 4th place – but I’m pleased with our game results. We went 5-0 in our group against teams such as EHOME and M5 – first beating vigoss on LAN and then beating a chinese powerhouse, I felt unbeatable 😉 We played a very long and intense game against Na`Vi and I feel that the game could’ve went both ways, sadly we didn’t win and lost in the semi-finals. ESWC was our 2nd LAN as a team and I can see our improvement from our first LAN in Ukraine, so I’m positive on improving further on each event. None of our players have even reached half their potential and as a team, we still do some basic mistake – We play with an agressive mindset that allow us to make these mistakes; Whenever our opponents punish us for our mistakes, we are ready to punish them for punishing us.

* You guys played one of the most epic matches of the tournament, against Na’Vi. Do you have something to say about that specific match?

It was fairly early in the morning and the gaming area was quite cold. We were rather prepared and knew what heroes they would pick and how they would play the game. In this game I played vengeful spirit, and had to make one of four decision each fight: Swap agressively, save ally from BM ulti, save ally from void ulti or stop Enigma Blackhole. The way Na`Vi performed their teamfights made it much harder for me to make this decision. It was rather frustrating for me. In one particular teamfight I swap and stun enigma, instead I could’ve swapped enigma and stunned beastmaster. If Potm would’ve leaped bm would’ve died and we could’ve won the fight easily. This was also the fight that turned around the game to their advantage. We did some wrong item choices aswell, buying BKB’s instead of guinsoos on our heroes. I guess, we were still thinking about our success with 5-BKBs against M5 with 3 hexes. Our biggest mistake was to rush and make stupid decisions. We need to be more patient with our play. Everyone one our team love to fight and make action, but against very strong teams such as Na`Vi or EHOME, you need to take your time and slowly build your advantage. Picking a teamfight is always a risk that can cost or win you the game. One technique used by Na`Vi in both ICS groupstage and at ESWC semi-finals against us is the way they use the buy-back system. It’s extremely effective as a defensive way of playing. We have been playing with this concept and we have found a way to abuse it offensively. It’s rather weird, that you can get ahead in the game by dying, right?

* Yes, it’s kinda odd. Can you explain us which is your point of view about the current metagame? Strategies, game overview, top-picks, that kind of things…

It’s quite hard to describe the metagame in DotA2, since the hero-pool changes every week. Something I’m not used to. Mostly I can tell you that tanky heroes are very strong such as Slardar and Nightstalker. In DotA1 it’s a different story. The 6.72f version is great. You are allowed to do jungling heroes, dual roaming, dual lanes with lich or against roam, tri lanes and it’s there is alot of tension between both teams in the early game and around the first night. The chinese scene has not yet picked up on the most powerfull heroes in this version; omni, furion and chen. We have seen some use of chen lately, but the way they play it is better suited if you play ench. Furion is getting picked as a 5th pick occassionally. I’m sure that we’ll see these heroes banned or picked at WDC. Another hero to look out for is Dragon Knight. He has seen alot of play in the chinese scene with pipe+mjollnir. It works really well against radiance carries. If you want to get a freewin, you can sneak in Obsidian to your line-up. He deals insane damage with his orb without much farm – Pt + force/meka – and he works great against those tanky carries since his orb is pure damage. I must admit that I feel very sad about teams not giving attention to: Axe with mana boots + battle hunger, techies with agha, naga siren and warlock with fatal bonds.

* What’s your opinion about DotA 2? Do you think it will replace original DotA? Do you think it could overcome other titles of the genre as HoN, LoL or Demigod?

DotA 2 is great. My personal opinion is that DotA2 is simply the next stage for DotA. It’s not much different from a normal version change, like say from 6.59d to 6.60. If you are sceptic about it, try it out for 1 month and you will love it – it’s the same game 😉
DotA already overcome other titles. With DotA2, Valve will provide enough marketing value so that DotA will be known outside of our own community.

* In wich platforms do you play DotA 1?

I used to play on Ranked Gaming Client (RGC). I love the mix between public games and captains mode. I switched to DotA2 completely and I’m not going back. Would you play 6.71 if you could play 6.72?

* How did you started to play competitively?

Maelk introduced me to the scene.

* Do you know anything about South-American scene? If so… What do you think about SA teams?

Yes. I’m paying attention to the South-American scene. You have a slightly different playstyle than the europeans and I feel both scenes can learn alot from eachother. I’m excited to watch ue play against exe and I’ve been wondering what the pain guys have been doing. I haven’t seen them for awhile.
It’s safe to say that the SA scene got talented players.

* Do you admire any player or team? What do you admire from he/they?

I admire the player and former teammate CuN-. Even though he is very talented, he is very humble. If someone were too arrogant or unmannered, he would challenge them in DotA and win. I always try to remember his lessons 😉
(Even though I love to troll around in pub and act unmannered/arrogant)

* Do you usually watch replays? From witch teams? Do you think you learn from that?

Yes. I watch new teams and replays from my opponents in tournaments. I usually focus on what creates the synergy in the team and how certain players like to do things(routines; tps, runes, farming pattern, etc). If you know the patterns, you know how to get the players out of their comfortzone and with the right focus, you remove the synergy from their team.

* Do you take part in DotA forums?

Yes. Gosugamers, playdota and joindota.

* Do you have a friendship with any competitive/league player?

I am on good terms with most competitive players 🙂

* What do you think about the latest notices of the scene? (M5 disband, EvilGeniuses, the lack of a fifth player in Na’Vi, etc.)

It’s the same old, same old. I wish, with DotA2, that teams will become more stable.

* Do you have any advice for supports of Low-Mid skilled teams?

You must be the core of your team. Make sure that you keep practicing with your team and against other teams instead of public games. Watch your own replays and find out how you can avoid your mistakes.
«Did you die because you went into enemy ward vision? Try smoke or sentries», «Are you underfarmed? Pull neutrals/take some farm on lane/push towers», «You have wards but your team still dies to ganks? Could you have placed wards some better places?»
Everytime you learn something new, write it down and don’t make the same mistake again 😉
If you keep switching team/players, it will take years to get good at supporting – so get a stable team.

* Is there any people you want to give a shoutout?

Shoutout to all the SA and danish dota players!

—This is the user-questions section—

By Art-Yoper:
* Do your family support you as a competitive player?
Yes. My family always support my decisions in life – I’m really happy about that.

* Did ever your love life interfered with DotA?
Yes it did. I don’t want to get into details, since I’m still emotional about it. I hope you can understand..

By Zkoz:
* What kind of music do you listen?
Haha. I love all kinds of music. It depends on the mood i’m in. Mostly I want to hear music that gets me into party mood or makes me happy/excited. It’s often music that I connect with special events. Like if I play DotA, I like to listen to music from good dota movies such as Foo Fighter – The pretender (slahsers Perceptive Play) or 4 Minute (World Dota Championship 2010).

* Which hero is the best support in your opinion?
It depends on what support your team needs. Most heroes can be turned into support.
Rhasta: Good for disable, gank and push towers.
Maiden: Good for laning, warding and map control
Storm: Good for vision, de-warding and initiation.

—This is the user-questions section—

* Can you give us (ZonaDotA staff) a shoutout in your next match?

I am bad at remembering shoutouts, but I will do my best to remember it.

* Do you have any final words? Thanks for the interview

Thank you aswell. It’s the best interview I’ve had so far.
I’d like to thank steelseries for providing some awesome gaming gear. Also shoutout to everyone watching my teammate Link’s own3d.tv Live stream.
See you around!
